Last month, representatives from the MISD project attended the ICT Open in Rotterdam, one of the Netherlands’ leading events for ICT research and innovation. The conference brought together a wide range of perspectives on the future of ICT in the Netherlands, including highlighting emerging technologies and the mindset shifts needed to support responsible design, development, and deployment of digital systems. These discussions emphasized the growing importance of aligning technological progress with societal and environmental goals.
During the conference, Magiel Bruntink and Karen van der Zanden (TNO) contributed to the track session “A new framework for a future-proof Netherlands through sustainable and sovereign digitalization.” In this session, experts explored how advances in software engineering, digital infrastructure design, and neuromorphic computing can drive sustainability while strengthening European strategic autonomy. Magiel presented how the MISD project actively advances these goals within the Dutch and broader European context. He demonstrated how MISD develops responsible, energy-efficient digital solutions that reinforce technological independence and highlighted the newly released Chantico software system, which orchestrates workloads across multiple data centres to provide the flexibility needed to use renewable energy effectively.
